At the beginning of each school year, three outstanding teachers are recognized and receive the BEST Award at Convocation. Last school year the BASD started a new tradition to highlight a support staff member and present them with the title of BASD Employee of the Month.
Dr. Joseph Roy, Superintendent of Schools, surprised Jerome Hymans with the honor of being named the Bethlehem Area School District Employee of the Month for October 2021. Jerome is the Head Custodian at Farmersville Elementary School in the Bethlehem Area School District.
Jennifer Hilton, Principal of Farmersville Elementary School stated: “Mr. Hymans joined Farmersville only two years ago but has already made a lasting impression on students and staff. Mr Hymans goes above and beyond to meet the needs of our school, students, staff, and community.
"Whether it's greeting students in the morning at our parent drop off, coming into the building over the weekend to let a teacher in to get extra time in their classroom, attending our PTA family fun events, dressing up for school spirit days, Jerome has quickly become an irreplaceable member of our Farmersville Family.
"He is a role model for our students, demonstrating what it means to work hard and show grace, compassion, and respect to everyone.
"The kids love him! As a Principal, I couldn't have asked for a better head custodian, especially as we faced the COVID pandemic and then our HVAC replacement this past summer. Jerome is proactive and often thinks of things before I even do. He has helped implement our COVID safety measures and is meticulous when it comes to ensuring the safety of our students and staff.
He exhibited an unmatched and unwavering positive attitude in preparation for our HVAC replacement, leading the way of our cleaning crews to help get our building open and ready for the first day of school. He is proud of his work and we are so proud to have him at The Farmersville!”
We extend many thanks to Jerome for his service to the district. Congratulations Jerome.
